Monastery Dobrilovina

If you are looking for antiques, You should see old ruins of medieval town “Brskovo” or Monastery of St. Đorđe from 16th century.

The St. George’s Monastery in Dobrilovina is located in the picturesque area of the Tara canyon on a fine plateau above the river between the rocky cliffs. Tranquillity and peace of this place are disturbed only by the noise of a nearby mountain water spring. The St. George’s Monastery had a turbulent past. As a symbol of literacy and resistance it was often attacked by the Turkish authorities. It was mentioned for the first time in 1592.

Tara River

Part of the river Tara, known as “Tear of Europe” runs through, the National Park “Durmitor”.

It springs in the north of the country and is 156 km long. It merges with the river Piva and together they make river Drina, one of the longest and most abundant river in water in the Balkans.

For centuries this strong mountain beauty had carved the limestone it runs through and shaped numerous narrow parts, gigantic obstacles and chasms. This is how a 93 kilometers long canyon was born. It is the second deepest canyon in the world right after the Colorado River canyon. The deepest part of the canyon is 1,300 meters deep. Its banks are steep, covered with forest arising from the coldness and depth of the canyon.

At some points a torrential river becomes calm and peaceful. Rare parts where you can cross the river from one side to the other are called “gazovi” (places where you can step in and walk to the other part). Near Bistrica, bed of the river is so narrow that according to the local people you could jump from one side to the other. This unusual place is called Đavolje lazi (Devil’s Bush).

Banks of the river and sides of the canyon are covered in thick vegetation: black pine, black hornbeam, black ash, elm and some linden and at higher altitudes you can find, hornbeam, filed maple, beech, etc. In the highest parts of the canyon above 1,000 meters above sea level there are fir trees and spruce. Black pine forest is particularly valuable including the area called “Crna poda”, which is the area of rarely tall and thick trees. The trees are over 50 meters tall and 450 years old.

Today, the canyon attracts tourists looking for adventure and a thrilling and direct contact with nature.

Rafting down almost the entire course of the river will make your adrenaline blow out. Apart from rafting on a rubber boat rafting on a wood raft is also recommended to tourists. Wood raft is made of wood logs and they are run by particularly brave and handy people. Once, this was a major means of transporting wood.

Those who decide to spend several days on the river will remember it for the rest of their lives, especially morning sun in the canyon and nights when the only light you will see is the narrow line of starry sky and swarm of fireflies. Apart from the fascinating Tara canyon, nature lovers will be astonished with Mrtvica or Cijevna canyon in the central part of Montenegro. The bravest ones should not miss the canyon Nevidio - the last conquered canyon in Europe.

Black Poda

In the valley of the canyon of the river Tara, between Bistrica and Dobrilovina, at the altitude of 950 meters above sea level, there is a black pine virgin forest – Crna Poda. These pine trees tower some 45 m, cover the area of 20 hectares and are about 400 years old.

Sinjajevina

This magical mountain is more like a plateau, an elevated plane on an average height of 1600 m above sea level.

Regardless of the dilemma – whether or not it was a mountain – it used to be precious for the once numerous flocks: a pasture on top of the mountain. Indeed the biggest pasture in Montenegro. It will enchant you with its grey-green colour, which is a thin layer of grass only recently covering the big boulder hidden beneath the grass. That is Sinjajevina, the realm of plants and herbs. It also has its summits, higher than 2000 m, reigning over the "sea of grass".

Zabojsko Lake

Hidden in Sinjajevina cliffs and surrounded by dense coniferous trees, there is a lake of emerald green colour. Its biggest depth of 19 meters places this almost undiscovered jewel among the three deepest lakes in Montenegro. Its beauty and quality is preserved and confirmed by a strict regime of protection within the National Park “Durmitor.” Silence and peace of the wilderness, clear and cold water of the lake and babbling of mountain spring will welcome and overwhelm you and probably make you come back again to Zabojsko lake. International Cup in jumps from the old bridge into the river Tara. Sports -tourist event and the tradition of this city has been bringing together year after year an increasing number of competitors and viewers. The competitors show their skills by jumping from the bridge built in 1934 from the height of 17m and end their flights in the cold and clear waters of the river Tara.
