Mihály Babits Memorial House, Esztergom

The famous poet and editor of the Nyugat, Mihály Babits purchased a summer house in Esztergom in 1924 where he spent time with his wife, Sophie Török. Many of his poems, including the Book of Job was written during the months he spent here. After his death, the house had many owners until it was declared protected in 1960. The building was renovated the year after and the memorial house was opened to the public. A curiosity of the house are the many autographs on its wall, which come from the visiting friends of Babits and Török - the famous artists and writers of the period.
