War Monument

The monument is dedicated to Croatian soldiers and civilians killed in the Homeland War. It was erected on 20th November 2011 marking the 20th anniversary of the Ivanovac residents’ exile.

Korogyvar Fortress

This fort was built on a location of the prehistoric settlement which was also the spot of a Roman fort. It was built by the Korogy family around 1250 as a defense from the Tatar invasion. It was built as a pile dwelling from solid construction material on the north – eastern part of the Korogyvar wetland. With its position and construction, it stands as a unique example of early medieval fortified city in the wetland, so called „waserburg“. The layout of the fort is round in shape, about 40 meters in diameter. In 17th century the fort was mentioned as Dirutim Castellum Korogyvar – "city in the swamp". This is a unique example of forts in Croatia because of its special construction system on oak wood pillars set in cross pattern on the wetland ground base. Over the years this area has been dried out for agricultural purposes so the fortress was left to stand on the high ground.

History

The first written mention of the name Ivanovac, or Ivanfalo in Hungarian language dates from 1332, but we know for sure that today's Ivanovac was first settled in 1836 and since then it has been continually developing. During the Middle Ages this was the location of the village and Catholic parish Ders (Držanica) with this name kept until 1851, when it has been changed to Ivanovac and kept this name until 1875. New settlers, housekeepers and agricultural workers, mostly Germans have held the Catholic Mass together with the school classes. In 1904 they built the Church of Saint Rosalia, which became the parish church. The name Ivanovac held until the arrival of the new land owner, Serb Jovan Maksimović, when, under his influence the village changes its name to Jovanovac. At the time, Jovanovac, together with Korogyvarpuszta had 138 houses and 981 inhabitants. Together with political changes and declaration of the independent Republic of Croatia, the Homeland War began, in which the Ivanovac inhabitants were forced to take refuge from their village and from 5th December 1991 Antunovac also fell under occupation. In 1992 Ivanovac residents slowly began to return to their homes and upon the end of the Homeland War in 1995, also the people from Antunovac returned to their homes.
