Drinking Hall of the Lajos Kossuth Spring, Balatonfüred
The healing properties of the acidulous springs of Balatonfüred have been known for centuries. In the 20th century, three CO2-rich springs were known, with the most popular being the Lajos Kossuth Spring. In 1802, a Classicist style well with a roof held by 12 columns was built above the spring flowing at Gyógy Square.
For the the visit of Franz Joseph I in 1852, the well was named after him. It was reconstructed in 1853 and renamed in the honor of Lajos Kossuth in 1952. The well was renovated in 1993.
A mutual property of the waters flowing in this area is their high iron content which defines its sour taste. It has been used for centuries for curing different health problems, including cardiovascular, digestive and diabetes related diseases. Naturally, the healing properties of the water are only complete with the calm atmosphere and fresh air.
