Bridge over the Gombás Stream, Vác
The bridge is one of the few Baroque bridges still standing in Hungary. It is usually referred to as the Stone Bridge or the Bridge with the Stone Saints.
It was built between 1753-1757 on a commission by Bishop Michael Karl von Althann. The bridge is dedicated to the patron of bridges, Saint John of Nepomuk who is depicted by the first statue of the bridge.
There are six statues standing on the bridge: the apostles Peter and Paul; Saint Camilla, the patron of healing; Saint Barbara, patron of the dying; St. Thaddeus, patron of the hopeless, and Saint Venantius, patron of those on the road. The unique statues were carved by the local sculptor, József Bechert.
