Holy Trinity Statue
The baroque style Holy Trinity Statue in Gazdagrét has been guarding the crossing of Törökbálinti Street, Gazdagréti Street and Irhás Canal since 1761.
Until the 20th century Gazdagrét was a farming area and vineyard on the edge of District 11. As the legend says a Swabian grape farmer working in Irhás Canal was swept away with his horse and cart by the flood after a summer downpour. Then he got stuck by the plank bridge at Törökbálinti Street and survived. To express his gratitude he erected a votive statue there.
The baroque style statue is characterized by vividness, pathos and sophisticated decorative elements. Sides bear carved patterns while the front displays a text in German praising God.
The sculpturer is unknown. The statue already listed as a sacral monument was renovated by the German community of New Buda in 1997. Due to road constructions it was relocated by a few meters.
