50 Bartók Béla Street

Before building the house in 1914 the area belonged to the floodplain of Danube so it was used only as a plough land and vineyard. When river management works finished Bartók Béla Street became a major road of the district.

The constructor was distiller Sándor Kalmár, who lived on the first floor until his death in 1944. Unfortunately, the building was badly damaged during WW2 and the original roof was partly replaced with a flat roof.

The house was built in Pre-Modern style by the plans of Béla Málnai and Gyula Haász. Their distinctive design is characterized by altered massing and moderate ornamenting still with an elegant outcome.
